Buffalo names DIII standout Leipold head coach
Dec 1, 2014 - 6:16 PM Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Lance Leipold, who guided Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater to five national titles in eight years, was introduced as the new head football coach at Buffalo Monday.Leipold enjoyed tremendous success at Wisconsin-Whitewater, amassing an outstanding 106-6 record and leading the Warhawks to six appearances in the Division III championship game. The program captured its fifth national title in the past eight years in 2013 and has gone 12-0 thus far this season.
The 50-year-old takes over a Buffalo program that won eight games and made an appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in 2013, but slipped to a 5-6 mark this season that led to head coach Jeff Quinn's dismissal in mid-October.
Leipold became the fastest coach in NCAA history to achieve 100 wins with the Warhawks' victory over Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Oct. 18.
Prior to building Wisconsin-Whitewater into a DIII powerhouse, Leipold served three years as an assistant at Nebraska from 2001-03 and was Nebraska-Omaha's offensive coordinator from 2004-06.
