Texas looks for easier road win at Texas Tech

Oct 24, 2006 - 7:54 PM No. 5 Texas (7-1) at Texas Tech (5-3), 7:00 pm EDT

LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) - Fifth-ranked Texas hopes it will not need last-minute heroics for a second straight week on the road.

The Longhorns look to remain unbeaten in Big 12 Conference play when they visit Texas Tech on Saturday.

Last weekend, Texas (7-1, 4-0 Big 12 South) edged Big 12 North leader Nebraska in Lincoln, 22-20, when walk-on kicker Ryan Bailey made a 22-yard field goal with 23 seconds left.

Bailey, who replaced the ineffective Greg Johnson, got a chance at the go-ahead kick after Longhorns defensive back Aaron Ross knocked the ball loose from Terrence Nunn and Marcus Griffin recovered in Nebraska territory with just over two minutes remaining.

Texas Tech (5-3, 2-2 South) snapped a two-game skid with a 42-26 triumph at Iowa State last Saturday.

Graham Harrell, who had struggled in losses to Missouri and Colorado, completed 31-of-40 passes for 368 yards and six touchdowns.

Texas is 40-14 all-time against Texas Tech and has won the last three meetings, including a 52-17 triumph in Austin last year. The Red Raiders posted a 42-38 home triumph in 2002 but came up short here in 2004, 51-21.
