Princeton in Japan for Legacy Bowl

Mar 19, 2015 - 6:04 PM Osaka, Japan (SportsNetwork.com) - The educational aspect of the Princeton football program's trip to Japan is meaningful, but the Tigers also will be learning about themselves on the playing field this week.

Princeton will wrap up its spring practices on Saturday when they face the Kwansei Gakuin University Fighters in the Legacy Bowl at Kincho Stadium.

Having won a share of the Ivy League title in 2013, Princeton slipped to 5-5 last season and will be looking to rebound this year.

Sixth-year coach Bob Surace and the Tigers began their spring practices on campus and are holding three more in Japan this week in leading up to the game.

But there are plenty of sights and community events to take in as well. On Thursday, members of the team went to sumo wrestling, where former New York Yankees great Derek Jeter was in attendance.

Former Tigers All-American wide receiver Roman Wilson, who played in Japan this past season, will sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" before Saturday's exhibition game.

This is the 125th anniversary year for Kwansei Gakuin, which has won the Koshien Bowl, the collegiate national championship, 27 times, most among Japanese colleges.

Princeton had previously defeated the Fighters, 27-25, in a 2001 game in Japan.
