Penn State DE Hayes out for season with knee injury

Oct 15, 2007 - 5:08 PM UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Penn State defensive end Jerome Hayes will miss the remainder of the season with a torn right ACL, the school announced Monday.

A redshirt sophomore, Hayes suffered the injury during the third quarter of Saturday's 38-7 victory over then-No. 19 Wisconsin.

The 6-2, 235-pound Hayes will undergo surgery within the next two weeks and will need nine months to fully recover, according to team medical director Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli.

Hayes, who took a medical redshirt as a true freshman in 2005, recorded 17 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks in seven games this season for the Nittany Lions (5-2).
