Cal to open 2016 season in Australia vs Hawaii

(AP) California will open next season in Australia with a game against Hawaii.The schools announced Saturday that the 2016 season will open with the Sydney College Football Cup on Aug. 27. The game will take place at the 83,500-seat ANZ Stadium originally constructed for the 2000 Olympics.
This will be Cal's second game ever outside the United States. The Golden Bears and Washington State played to a 17-17 tie on Nov. 28, 1987, in Tokyo.
Cal coach Sonny Dykes called it a ''once in a lifetime experience.''
The game will replace a previously scheduled home contest on Sept. 3 for Cal against South Dakota. After returning from Australia, the Bears will visit San Diego State on Sept. 10.
