Nickson produces five TDs as Vanderbilt defeats Duke
Oct 28, 2006 - 10:47 PM DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Quarterback Chris Nickson ran for three touchdowns and passed for two more as Vanderbilt posted a 45-28 triumph over Duke in a non-conference matchup.The 6-1 sophomore registered 400 total yards of offense, completing 14-of-24 passes for 250 yards and running for 150 more for the Commodores, who have won six consecutive meetings in the series.
Nickson recorded touchdown runs of nine, five and one yards as he became the first Commodore signal-caller to gain at least 100 yards on the ground since 2003.
Earl Bennett had nine catches for a career-best 184 yards, including a 77-yard score in the first quarter, for Vanderbilt (4-5), which took a 28-7 advantage into the break and led by as many as 31 points.
Justin Boyle collected career highs of 113 yards and four TDs for the Blue Devils (0-8), who now have the longest active losing streak in Division I-A at 16 games after Temple snapped its 20-game slide earlier Saturday.
Thaddeus Lewis went 10-of 25 for 106 yards with two interceptions for Duke, which was outgained, 512-359.
