Johnson leads Kansas State past Iowa State
Oct 28, 2006 - 11:57 PM MANHATTAN, Kansas (Ticker) -- James Johnson rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown as Kansas State posted a 31-10 Big 12 Conference victory over Iowa State.After rushing for a career-high 127 yards and a score in last week's loss to Missouri, Johnson carried 22 times in the win over the Cyclones. His 32-yard run with 47 seconds left in the third quarter broke a 10-10 tie.
Josh Freeman completed 14-of-20 passes for 161 yards. His touchdown pass to John McCardle with 3:35 left in the second quarter tied the game at 10-10.
The Wildcats (5-4, 2-3 Big 12 North) snapped a two-game slide and have beaten the Cyclones in 14 of their last 17 meetings.
Leon Patton broke off a 37-yard touchdown run with just over four minutes remaining to put Kansas State ahead, 24-10.
Bret Meyer was 23-of-41 for 280 yards for Iowa State (3-6, 0-5 North), which has lost four straight games. He led the Cyclones to a 10-0 first-quarter lead.
The 6-3, 208-pound junior was sacked six times and threw an interception that was returned 30 yards for a touchdown by defensive back Devin Anderson with three minutes left.
