Maine promotes Harasymiak to coach

Dec 16, 2015 - 10:14 PM (STATS) - Joe Harasymiak was named as the University of Maine's new head football coach Wednesday, succeeding Jack Cosgrove.

Harasymiak was an assistant under Cosgrove the last five seasons, including the last two as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. He became the interim head coach last month after Cosgrove announced his retirement following his 23rd season.

"To think of all of the great head coaches who have come through here, and to be selected to be part of that group, is humbling. I can't wait to get started," said Harasymiak, the 35th head coach in the program's 124-year history.

Harasymiak received a four-year deal worth $600,000.

He is a 2008 graduate from Springfield, where he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant. He also coached at Maine Maritime Academy.

Maine finished 3-8 this season, including 3-5 in the CAA.
