Auburn hires ex-Tiger Kodi Burns as co-offensive coordinator

Feb 16, 2016 - 5:28 PM AUBURN, Ala. (AP) Auburn has hired former Tigers player Kodi Burns as receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator.

Coach Gus Malzahn announced the hiring on Monday, a day after LSU hired away Dameyune Craig.

Burns had been named running backs coach at Arizona State earlier this year. He's also had stints at Middle Tennessee State and Samford.

He played for Auburn from 2007-10, starting his career as a quarterback before moving to wide receiver. That's where he played on the Tigers' 2010 national championship team.

Burns was the first Auburn freshman quarterback to start in a game since Gabe Gross in 1998 and then caught a 35-yard touchdown pass against Oregon in the national championship game.

He was also a graduate assistant for the 2013 Auburn team that made the national title game.
