Oklahoma judge won't release video in Mixon assault case

Feb 25, 2016 - 10:04 PM NORMAN, Okla. (AP) An Oklahoma judge has refused to publicly release surveillance video that was used in an assault case against Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon.

Mixon was suspended from the team after pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault for knocking a woman unconscious near campus in July 2014. A restaurant's surveillance video recorded the incident.

The Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters is seeking the video under the state's open records law. But on Thursday, District Judge Thad Balkman ruled that the video wasn't a court exhibit and would remain in the custody of the city of Norman.

City officials believe the video is the private property of the restaurant where it was taken and are concerned whether they can legally release it. The surveillance video has been shown in court and privately to reporters.
