Report: UCLA fires Karl Dorrell

Dec 3, 2007 - 7:44 PM BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) -- UCLA football coach Karl Dorrell apparently will not survive another mediocre season.

Dorrell was fired Monday, according to a report on ESPN.com.

Citing an anonymous source close to the situation, the web site reported that Dorrell received a $2 million contract buyout after being informed of the school's decision.

Dorrell, 43, compiled a 35-27 record and guided the Bruins to five bowl appearances in five seasons at UCLA. The Bruins will play Brigham Young in the Las Vegas Bowl on December 22.

A preseason favorite to contend in the Pac-10 Conference, UCLA ended its sub-par campaign in disappointing fashion Saturday with a 24-7 loss to rival Southern California.

The Bruins finished with a 6-6 overall record this year, including a 5-4 mark in Pac-10 play.

It marked the fourth time in the last five years that UCLA failed to win more than seven games.
