Maryland hires Andy Buh as its next defensive coordinator
Apr 5, 2016 - 7:57 PM COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) Maryland coach DJ Durkin has hired former Kentucky assistant Andy Buh as his new defensive coordinator.Buh was Kentucky's outside linebackers coach since 2015 and was recently promoted to also serve as special teams coordinator. Durkin and Buh were on the same staff at Stanford in 2007.
Buh (pronounced boo) served as the defensive coordinator at Stanford, Nevada and Cal prior to working at Kentucky.
Durkin says Buh is ''an excellent fit for our program.''
Buh replaces Scott Shafer, who resigned as Maryland's defensive coordinator on Friday, citing ''personal reasons.''
Buh says his style fits the philosophy of Durkin, who was defensive coordinator at Michigan before coming to Maryland.
Buh says, ''We are an attacking-style of defense. We want to dictate to the offense what we are going to do.''
