SE Louisiana sets 2017 matchup at Louisiana-Lafayette

Apr 7, 2016 - 3:42 PM (STATS) - Southeastern Louisiana will take on in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette for the first time since 1981 when they face off in their 2017 season opener.

The game, to be played Sept. 2 at Cajun Field in Lafayette, will be the 39th meeting between the two former Gulf States Conference rivals.

Louisiana-Lafayette, from the Sun Belt, holds an 18-17-3 lead in the series. Southeastern won the most recent meeting 7-0 in Lafayette on Sept. 12, 1981.

Southeastern, which won Southland Conference titles in 2013 and '14, has lost 20 straight games against FBS teams since the program's return in 2003.
