Virginia Tech meets Cincinnati for first time in 11 years

Sep 19, 2006 - 9:15 PM Cincinnati (1-2) at No. 11 Virginia Tech (3-0), 12:00 pm EDT

BLACKSBURG, Virginia (Ticker) - The last time Virginia Tech met Cincinnati, the Hokies were shut out. Frank Beamer's squad has not been kept off the scoreboard since.

The 11th-ranked Hokies meet the Bearcats for the first time since 1995 on Saturday.

Cincinnati leads the all-time series, 4-3, after its 16-0 triumph in Blacksburg 11 years ago.

Virginia Tech (2-0) has scored in all 138 games since, including last week's 36-0 blanking of Atlantic Coast Conference foe Duke.

Sean Glennon passed for 301 yards and two touchdowns for the Hokies, who recorded eight sacks and limited the Blue Devils to just 139 total yards. Virginia Tech leads the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 3.33 points per game.

Cincinnati (1-2) has lost back-to-back contests, including a 37-7 setback at intrastate foe and top-ranked Ohio State last weekend.

Dustin Grutza completed 18-of-22 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted twice and sacked seven times for the Bearcats, who held a 7-3 lead in the second quarter before the Buckeyes took over.
