Alabama DL Hand arrested on DUI charge

Jul 29, 2017 - 11:18 PM Alabama senior defensive lineman Da'Shawn Hand was arrested and charged with driving under the influence on Saturday morning.

The Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Sheriff Department said Hand was jailed on $1,000 bond.

"This type of behavior is not acceptable and we are disappointed in Da'Shawn's actions," Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement. "We are still gathering information and will evaluate what we need to do in terms of appropriate discipline as we move forward, so better choices and decisions can be made in the future."

The 6-foot-4, 288-pound Hand, a preseason All-SEC first-team selection, registered 21 tackles and two sacks in 15 games as a reserve last season. He has seven career sacks and is expected to step into the Crimson Tide's starting lineup at defensive end.

Alabama begins preseason practice on Thursday. The Tide open the season on Sept. 2 against Florida State in Atlanta.
