West Virginia WR Simms suspended following DUI arrest
Aug 15, 2017 - 7:31 PM West Virginia wide receiver Marcus Simms has been suspended from the team's season opener following his arrest on suspicion of drunken driving.Simms will miss the neutral-site opener against Virginia Tech on Sept. 3 after he was arrested Sunday on charges of driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license.
"We have very high expectations for our student-athletes and they know that how we represent this university is more important than their contribution on the field," coach Dana Holgorsen said in a statement. "While every case is unique and discipline imposed is based on varying factors, this suspension is warranted. It is my hope that Marcus works hard to fulfill his obligation as a member of our community and as a member of our football program."
Simms will be permitted to practice with the team during his suspension.
He reeled in six receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown in nine games during his freshman season in 2016.
