Dixon's late score lifts Kentucky past Georgia

Nov 4, 2006 - 10:29 PM LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Tony Dixon gave the Kentucky alumni a late gift on Homecoming Day.

Dixon scored the game-winning three-yard touchdown with less than two minutes remaining to lift Kentucky to a 24-20 Southeastern Conference triumph over fading Georgia.

It was the second straight victory for the Wildcats (5-4, 3-3 SEC East), who improved to 45-16 all-time in homecoming games and snapped a nine-game skid against the Bulldogs (6-4, 3-4 East).

Kentucky trailed by three heading into the fourth quarter, but Andre' Woodson threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Keenan Burton with 8:29 remaining to give the Wildcats a 17-14 advantage.

Georgia reclaimed the lead with 4:37 left when running back Danny Ware plunged into the end zone from three yards out, but Kentucky responded with an 11-play, 69-yard drive capped by Dixon's TD run with 1:21 to go.

Woodson completed 23-of-32 attempts for 204 yards, two TDs and two interceptions. His favorite target was Burton, who hauled in seven receptions for 73 yards and a pair of scores.

Alfonso Smith ran for 76 yards on 19 carries while Dixon added 47 yards on just eight attempts for the Wildcats, who forced four turnovers and improved to 11-47-2 all-time against the Bulldogs.

True freshman Matthew Stafford went 16-of-28 for 230 yards, a TD and three interceptions for Georgia, which has dropped four of its last five.
