Kansas State becomes bowl eligible with win over Colorado
Nov 5, 2006 - 1:18 AM BOULDER, Colorado (Ticker) -- Kansas State is delighted to be bowl eligible. Colorado is glad its season is almost over.Josh Freeman threw for two touchdowns and Leon Patton added 96 rushing yards and a score as the Wildcats reached the critical six-win plateau with a 34-21 Big 12 triumph over the woeful Buffaloes.
By virtue of its second straight win, Kansas State (6-4, 3-3 Big 12 North) will be eligible to participate in a bowl game for the first time since 2003. The Wildcats opened the scoring with 17 points in the second quarter and never looked back en route to just their fifth win in 30 road meetings with the Buffaloes.
Freeman completed 22-of-26 passes for 251 yards, including a nine-yard TD strike to Yamon Figurs midway through the second quarter. He also hooked up with Jody Nelson on a 74-yard pass early in the fourth to make it 27-14.
Nelson had five catches for 117 yards, while Figurs had three receptions for 24 yards and also ran for a 30-yard TD in the fourth quarter.
Bernard Jackson accounted for 250 of Colorado's 370 yards of offense. He was 10-of-18 for 145 yards and carried 17 times for 105 yards, including scores of three and 62 yards in the second half.
Colorado (1-9, 1-5 North) allowed 439 yards of offense, 372 more on kickoffs and converted just 4-of-11 third downs in losing for the fifth time in as many home games this season.
