Sign of the times: Nebraska fans want UCF's Frost

Nov 19, 2017 - 1:54 AM PHILADELPHIA -- Each white sign was etched in big, bold red lettering to grab Scott Frost's attention that he's still loved in Nebraska. And this was on an overcast Saturday afternoon at chilly Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

It's now reaching a point where Frost is getting reminded everywhere he goes.

The Central Florida coach was trotting off the field on Saturday, fresh off of UCF's school-record 10th straight victory, 45-19 over Temple. There hanging over the Knights' tunnel were red-clad Nebraska fans holding up three signs that completed the sentence, "Scott, come back home," pointing to Frost in hopes he's the Cornhuskers' next coach.

Frost addressed a recent report claiming that he has made a deal with Nebraska, which is headed toward a second losing season in three years under Mike Riley.

"That's just totally false," Frost said about the report. "I haven't paid any attention to all of these whirlwind rumors and everything. And I'm not going to. I have an unbelievable team and I'm going to coach them. I can promise you that no decision has been made about anything."

Frost is a former college quarterback who led Nebraska to a share of the 1997 national championship under the legendary Tom Osborne. He was asked about what the Nebraska sign might have meant to his current UCF players.

"I don't know, it doesn't do anything to me," Frost said. "Listen, I talked to Coach Osborne once back in Nebraska and he was at the Wailing Wall in Israel and he had to sign an autograph with a yarmulke on for a Nebraska fan. That's just the way those people are. So it doesn't surprise me that they show up.

"That's awesome, but I'm here to coach our football team. And we have a special football team."

In two years, Frost has transformed a team that was 0-12 in 2015 to a team that is 10-0 this season and is No. 15 in the College Football Playoff rankings.
