Penny matches kickoff return TD record

Nov 19, 2017 - 9:25 AM San Diego State standout Rashaad Penny matched the all-time FBS record of seven career kickoff return touchdowns in the Aztecs' 42-23 victory over Nevada on Saturday night.

Penny's 100-yard return score in the fourth quarter tied him with former Clemson star C.J. Spiller (2006-09) and Houston's Tyron Carrier (2008-11) for the NCAA record.

Penny also returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown and set a San Diego State single-game record with 429 all-purpose yards. The former mark of 386 was set by College Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk in 1991.

"That was by far his best game for us," Aztecs coach Rocky Long said afterward of Penny. "If anybody was still awake back East, they ought to watch and find out that he's one of the best five players in the country. I mean, I've seen a lot of really good players. They don't do things like he did."

Penny, a senior, rushed for 222 yards and two touchdowns in the contest. He leads the nation with 1,824 rushing yards, overtaking Stanford's Bryce Love (1,723).
