With Ohio State in sight, Michigan visits Indiana

Nov 7, 2006 - 9:01 PM No. 2 Michigan (10-0) at Indiana (5-5), 3:30 pm EST

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana (Ticker) - Michigan is not likely to look past an opponent from the Hoosier State for a second straight week.

After nearly getting stunned by Ball State, the second-ranked Wolverines look to remain unbeaten when they visit Indiana in a Big Ten Conference contest on Saturday.

Michigan (10-0, 6-0 Big Ten) took a break from league action last weekend to host Ball State of the Mid-American Conference, but the Wolverines needed a late defensive stand inside their own 10 to hold off the Cardinals, 34-26.

Mike Hart and true freshman Brandon Minor each ran for more than 100 yards and a touchdown for the Wolverines, who held a 31-12 third-quarter lead before blowing most of their advantage.

Michigan appeared to be looking ahead to next week's game at top-ranked Ohio State, as did the Buckeyes in a 17-10 win at lowly Illinois last week. In order to avoid a shocking defeat, the Wolverines will need to remained focused for 60 minutes against the Hoosiers, who can score in bunches.

However, Indiana (5-5, 3-3) is coming off a surprising 63-36 loss at Minnesota last Saturday. The Hoosiers were hoping to become bowl eligible for the first time since 1993 but instead surrendered the game's first 35 points and never came close to catching up.

Redshirt freshman Kellen Lewis threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns but also tossed a pair of costly interceptions in the defeat.

Michigan has won the last 14 meetings with Indiana since a 14-10 loss here in 1987. The Wolverines posted a 41-14 home win last year.
