LSU looks to keep rolling at home vs. Alabama

Nov 7, 2006 - 9:38 PM Alabama (6-4) at No. 12 LSU (7-2), 7:45 pm EST

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) - After a dramatic road victory, No. 12 Louisiana State returns to the comforts of home Saturday when it faces Southeastern Conference rival Alabama.

After tough road losses to Auburn and Florida, the Tigers rallied for a 28-24 victory at then-No. 8 Tennessee last Saturday.

JaMarcus Russell capped an 80-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown pass to Early Doucet with nine seconds to play, keeping the Tigers in the hunt for the SEC West Division title.

Russell completed 24-of-36 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns and ran seven times for 71 yards for LSU (7-2, 3-2 SEC West), which sits behind Arkansas and Auburn in the division. The Tigers host lowly Mississippi before visiting the Razorbacks on November 24.

LSU has won its last 12 November contests and 11 straight at home, where it has outscored its six opponents by a combined 274-36 this season.

Alabama (6-4, 2-4 West) has dropped two of its last three games, including an embarrassing 24-16 home loss to Mississippi State last Saturday.

Jeffrey Dukes scored on a 24-yard interception return but the Crimson Tide offense failed to produce a touchdown on four trips inside the red zone.

Alabama ranks just 64th in the nation in total offense with an average of 335.80 yards and is not likely to find much going against LSU's national-best defense (215.67).

The Tigers have won three straight against Alabama - their most in the rivalry - and five of six. Last year, LSU posted a 16-13 overtime triumph in Tuscaloosa.
