Nov 7, 2006 - 10:03 PM Kent St (5-4) at No. 20 Virginia Tech (7-2), 3:30 pm EST

BLACKSBURG, Virginia (Ticker) - Virginia Tech has won its past 24 non-conference homes games. Kent State has the unfortunate task of trying to end the streak this weekend.

The 20th-ranked Hokies step out of Atlantic Coast Conference play to host the Golden Flashes on Saturday.

Virginia Tech (7-2), which already has posted non-conference home wins over Northeastern, Cincinnati and Southern Mississippi this season, improved to 4-2 in ACC play with a 17-10 win at Miami last Saturday.

Branden Ore, who had rushed for at least 200 yards in his previous two contests, was limited to 79 yards on 28 carries but scored twice, including the go-ahead touchdown with 1:39 to play.

Kent State (5-4) slipped to second place in the Mid-American Conference East Division after losing back-to-back games to Ohio and Buffalo.

In last week's road loss, the Golden Flashes jumped out to a 14-0 second-quarter lead before surrendering 41 unanswered points, including 38 after the break.

The teams split their two previous meetings, with Virginia Tech losing on the road in 1975 before winning here the following year.
