Indiana WR Cobbs to enter NFL draft

Dec 21, 2017 - 6:54 PM Indiana redshirt junior receiver Simmie Cobbs, who is second in the Big Ten with 72 receptions, announced on Thursday that he will enter the 2018 NFL draft.

Cobbs is rated as the No. 5 junior wideout, according to NFLDraftScout.com, which projected him as a 2019 second-round pick before Thursday's announcement.

Cobbs (6-foot-4, 220 pounds) earned first-team All-Big Ten honors this season, with 841 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He caught 60 passes for 1,035 yards as a sophomore in 2015 before playing in only one game in 2016 because of an ankle injury. He received a medical redshirt.

"We would like to thank Simmie Cobbs for all that he has given to the Indiana Hoosiers over the last four years," head coach Tom Allen said in a statement. "He had a tremendous career here at IU and we wish him nothing but the very best as he pursues his career in the National Football League."

The Big Ten's leading pass-catcher this season, Maryland junior D.J. Moore (80 catches for 1,033 yards and eight TDs), also declared this week for the 2018 draft. NFLDraftScout.com had him rated with a fifth-round grade for 2019.
