Alabama LB Jennings (knee) out vs. Georgia

Jan 3, 2018 - 5:37 PM Alabama linebacker Anfernee Jennings, one of the defensive stars of the Crimson Tide's victory over Clemson in the Sugar Bowl, won't play in the national title game against Georgia.

Jennings, who suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter of the 24-6 win on Monday, wrote on social media Wednesday that he underwent surgery.

"Surgery was a success," he wrote.

"Still have to wait and see what the next MRI will determine Friday. Unfortunately I've played my last game this season but I will be back stronger than ever next season because I know that God makes no mistakes. But through it all I am trusting and depending on him and I know that my Greater is coming. Now let's finish and Win this Natty."

Jennings, a 6-foot-3, 262-pound sophomore, started all 11 games in which he played this season, making 41 tackles, including six for loss. He had five tackles vs. Clemson, including his first career sack as part of his three tackles for loss.

His size against the powerful running game of Georgia would have been important in Monday night's meeting in Atlanta. Jennings' setback continues a star-crossed season at linebacker for Alabama, which has lost 34 starts at the position due to injury.

Christian Miller, a starter who missed 10 games after suffering a biceps injury in the season opener, was listed as Jennings' backup for the Sugar Bowl.
