Louisiana-Lafayette opened with an 18-38 loss to Texas. Steve Sarkisian’s system will score points, and Texas was a tough first matchup for Louisiana-Lafayette. Louisiana-Lafayette QB Levi Lewis had a good game, finishing 28/40 with 282 yards and one TD, but third-downs were the difference in this game. Texas converted 10/15 third downs, while Louisiana-Lafayette converted 4/13. We will see some improvement this week out of Louisiana-Lafayette after a tough Week 1 matchup. 

Nicholls State opened up with a tough loss to Memphis. Losing 42-17, Nicholls showed they could score on a decent team. QB Lindsey Scott JR. threw the ball through the air going 17-30 for 194 yards and a TD, and rushed for another TD on top of that. The defense struggled as Memphis threw for 265 yards and rushed for 322.

Overview

Louisiana-Lafayette had a tough matchup. After beating Iowa State last year during Week 1, Texas was ready for them this year. This is a tough Texas team. We will see Louisiana-Lafayette bounce back during this game. Levi Lewis can throw the ball, and this will open up the running lanes. We will see Louisiana-Lafayette run the ball all over Nicholls State. Louisiana-Lafayette will score 35+ points on this team.

The Louisiana-Lafayette defense struggled against an explosive Texas offense. Texas can put up 38 points on some great teams. Expect the defense to have a better outing against Nicholls State. Nicholls State will score, but they will struggle. Louisiana-Lafayette will control this game on offense and defense.

Nicholls State proved they are a decent team. They lost but still scored on Memphis. The defense was the weak part of the team. They won’t be able to stop the run against Louisiana. The offense showed some balance in the running and passing game. QB Lindsey Scott JR will be able to pass and run the ball. The running game will be a little below average. Expect this team to struggle against Louisiana. 

Bottom Line

Louisiana-Lafayette will win this game. Nicholls State is going to score some points, but Louisiana will come away with it. Nicholls State does not have the firepower to compete with Louisiana-Lafayette. The depth of Louisiana-Lafayette will show towards the end of the game when the team starts to pull away to win. Nicholls State is a great bounce-back game for Louisiana-Lafayette. Expect them to come to play.
