Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. West Virginia Mountaineers Odds & Game Pick (2021)

Sep 30, 2021 - 5:13 PM

The BIG12 will find out more about itself on Saturday as the Red Raiders head to Morgantown, WV to play the Mountaineers in the afternoon time slot. Both teams are coming off losses, with one being more significant than the other in a variety of ways.

Let’s take a closer look at where the two stand heading into the weekend.

Overview

Things got ugly quick last week for the Red Raiders in Austin, as four quick scores from the Longhorns turned into a 70-35 beating that got out of hand. Allowing 639 yards of total offense, including 336 on the ground, the beating was the worst of the Matt Wells era as they’ll look to quickly forget about it and rebound in this one.

It wasn’t for a lack of effort from the offense, as quarterback Henry Colombi thew for 324 yards and three touchdowns, as the senior has yet to commit a turnover on the season.

For the Mountaineers, the biggest upset of the Neal Brown era was afoot last week as they took #4 Oklahoma down to the wire on the road, losing by a 30-yard field goal as time expired. Now sitting at 2-2 with another tough loss on the road in Week 1 vs. Maryland, the Mountaineers will look to lean on their raucous home crowd to help carry them to a 1-1 start in Big 12 play.

While I don’t think it’s sustainable, WVU has continued to rely on a two-man rotation at the quarterback position in Jarrett Doege and Garrett Greene who have been adequate but yet failed to separate themselves from each other.

Trends

  • The favorite is 4-1 ATS in L5
  • The Over is 5-2 in Texas Tech’s L7 as a road dog

Bottom Line

Doing many good things last week in Oklahoma, the defense really stood out for WVU as they caused problems all evening for Heisman candidate Spencer Rattler and the often elusive Lincoln Riley offense. Building off of that performance, I like the Mountaineers to continue their stellar defensive play and lean on a front seven who is allowing just 2.5 yards per rush.

In a game I’ll be teasing everywhere, I’m also taking WVU to cover the number and improve to 4-1 ATS on the season.

Pick: WVU -7
