Coastal Carolina has been one of my favorite teams to bet on for two years now. They consistently win, beat the spread, and go over the total points. The big reason for this is because of their offense. Coastal Carolina’s offense has found the end zone thirty-one times this year and is the number six offense in college football. They are also second in yards per play with an 8.38 yards per play average. This offense is explosive and can score points.

Arkansas State is consistently giving up points. The Arkansas State defense is giving up 45.6 points per game. The lack of playing good defense is the reason that this team has started 1-4. The defense has struggled in all aspects this year. Washington found success in the passing game, throwing for almost 400 yards and three touchdowns. Memphis rushed for 260 yards with a 7.1 yards per rush average. Statistically, Coastal Carolina looks good on paper against this defensive unit.

That means this team is well-rounded on offense. Coastal Carolina is already scoring 48.2 points per game. Now they are going up against a defense that is one of the worst defenses in college football. They are going to be able to score in bunches. Next week they play Appalachian State, which means the only concern about covering the spread is if coach Jamey Chadwell decides to pull his starters early. 

Arkansas State has an awful defense. They are going to need to score on offense to keep up with Coastal Carolina. Offensively, Arkansas State isn’t a bad team. They are averaging 32 points per game. Their quarterback, James Blackman, is averaging 252.8 yards per game. Running the ball has been hard for them, and they will need the balance against this Coastal Carolina team to try and cover the spread, especially if QB Blackman keeps turning the ball over. He has three interceptions already during October. 

Bottom Line

Coastal Carolina is the sixth-best offense in college football, going up against one of the worst defenses. They have consistently put up points and took care of the football. Arkansas State will have to count on their offense to cover the spread, and with QB Blackman’s interceptions lately and the lack of run game for Arkansas State, they are at a disadvantage coming into this game. Coastal has been too good on offense and defense to pick Arkansas State. They also have been good against the spread while they are on the road.
