The Big Ten West is still very much up for grabs as two of its schools face off this Saturday in Madison, WI, when the Northwestern Wildcats come to town. For the Wildcats, a chance to play spoiler is pretty much the only thing in the cards, but a card they will undoubtedly be looking to use.

Overview 

After starting the season just 1-3, it was beginning to look like one of the disappointments in quite a long time for this highly touted Badgers team who had high expectations. However, five straight wins have them trending back towards their goals, as they’re tied for the lead in the Big Ten West with just two games remaining after Saturday.

At QB, Graham Mertz began the season with six interceptions through just his first three games but has since redeemed himself, throwing just two since, as well as four touchdowns over his past two games. The last time we saw them on the field, a 52-3 rout of Rutgers, was the team’s most complete performance to date.

For the visiting Wildcats, things have not gone as expected this season as inadequate quarterback play has troubled them all season as they are on their third one in 9 games. With the bad quarterback play, running back Evan Hull has rushed for 791 yards on the season, and given this offense, it’s the only semblance of decency.

Bottom Line

While this is a big number to lay with a team in Wisconsin who has fallen short all season, these last three games have seemed like a different team entirely. Giving up a combined 23 points in that span, the Badgers have covered all three by an average of +22 points.

With many of their preseason goals still in front of them, I like a focused Badgers team and for them to run away with this one early.
