The ACC – Atlantic still has some unfinished business in declaring a winner but will take one step closer this weekend when the #10 ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons visit Clemson. With a win, the Demon Deacons would close the door and set their date for the championship game, but a loss complicates things.

Overview 

Coming into this week with the #1 offense in the country, the Demon Deacons are averaging 44.7 points and 498.5 yards per game and have shown no signs of slowing down. Led by now-veteran quarterback Sam Hartman, the Deamon Deacons have also benefited from one of the best offensive lines and receiving cores not just in the ACC but in the country.

Hartman, however, has been the real difference for this Demon Deacon team, as the QB has thrown for 3,100 yards and 30 touchdowns, both #2 in the ACC.

For the Tigers, second-year QB D.J. Uiagalelei has struggled mightily, as the gunslinger has thrown for just 1,700 yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 7:8. Additionally, his 107.4 QB rating ranks dead last in the ACC and amongst the worst of any Power 5 program.

Even still, this Tiger’s defense has more than lived up to its billing. To this point in the season, the Tigers rank #3 in the country in giving up just 15.3 points per game, while allowing just 311 (#11) yards of total offense.

Bottom Line

Though it’s unlikely, if the Demon Deacons lose this one and next week’s game against Boston College, they could be on the outside looking in for this season’s ACC Championship game. With that, despite having not beaten Clemson in their last 12 tries, I like for this Demon Deacons team to sense the urgency and for Hartman to use his experience to keep this one close.
