Minnesota beats Iowa, becomes bowl eligible

Nov 18, 2006 - 9:21 PM MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) - Amir Pinnix helped Minnesota take back the Floyd of Rosedale trophy.

Pinnix rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns and Minnesota forced five turnovers en route to a 34-24 Big Ten Conference victory over Iowa.

The Golden Gophers (6-6, 3-5 Big Ten) ended a five-game losing streak against their conference rival while becoming bowl eligible.

Pinnix also gave the Golden Gophers a 1,000-yard rusher for an eighth straight season. He scored on runs of 10 yards in the first quarter and 25 yards in the fourth, the second giving Minnesota a 34-17 advantage.

Bryan Cupito threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns for Minnesota.

Defensively, the Golden Gophers intercepted Drew Tate three times and recovered a pair of fumbles.

Tate completed 26-of-36 passes for 354 yards and two touchdowns for Iowa (6-6, 2-6), which lost its final five conference games.
