Florida looks for third straight win over FSU

Nov 22, 2006 - 12:08 AM No. 4 Florida (10-1) at Florida St (6-5), 12:00 pm EST

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Ticker) - Fourth-ranked Florida looks to remain perfect against its three chief rivals under Urban Meyer when it visits Florida State on Saturday.

The Gators are 5-0 against Tennessee, Georgia and Florida State under Meyer and have won a school-record six in a row against the trio dating to a 2004 victory over the Seminoles under outgoing coach Ron Zook.

Last year, Florida forced four turnovers in a 34-7 victory over Florida State in "The Swamp." The Gators have not won three straight over the Seminoles since 1984-86.

The Gators (10-1), who will face No. 5 Arkansas in the Southeastern Conference title game next weekend, are coming off a 62-0 trouncing of Division I-AA Western Carolina.

True freshman quarterback Tim Tebow both ran and passed for two touchdowns for Florida, which is hoping to improve to 11-1 for the first time since winning the national championship in 1996.

The Seminoles (6-5) are having a miserable season, one that bottomed out with a 30-0 loss to Wake Forest on November 11 - their first home blanking in 31 seasons under Bobby Bowden, the winningest coach in Division I-A history. Jeff Bowden, Bobby's son and the offensive coordinator, resigned three days later, effective at the end of the season.

Florida State struggled but became bowl eligible with a 28-20 victory over Western Michigan last weekend. Backup quarterback Xavier Lee threw a pair of touchdowns in the triumph.
