Virginia Tech wraps up regular season vs. Virginia

Nov 22, 2006 - 12:19 AM Virginia (5-6) at No. 17 Virginia Tech (9-2), 12:00 pm EST

BLACKSBURG, Virginia (Ticker) - No. 17 Virginia Tech tries to maintain its mastery of Virginia when the Atlantic Coast Conference foes conclude their regular seasons Saturday.

The Hokies have won six of the last season meetings against their intrastate rival, including a 52-14 romp in Charlottesville last year. Branden Ore and Cedric Humes combined for 228 rushing yards and five touchdowns in the rout.

Virginia last won in Blacksburg in 1998.

The Hokies (9-2, 5-2 ACC Coastal) have won five consecutive contests in which they have outscored the opposition by a combined 127-29.

Last Saturday, Virginia Tech routed Wake Forest on the road, 27-6, behind a pair of long touchdown passes from Sean Glennon and a 35-yard fumble return for a score by Xavier Adibi. However, Ore injured his left ankle and exited the stadium on crutches. Virginia (5-6, 4-3 Coastal) has won three of its last four games and will become bowl eligible with a triumph.

Last weekend, the Cavaliers concluded their home slate with a 17-7 win over reeling Miami. Freshman quarterback Jameel Sewell threw for 217 yards and had a pair of touchdown runs in the triumph.
