Lovell's late field goal extends Cincinnati's season

Nov 25, 2006 - 9:46 PM EAST HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Nick Davila and Kevin Lovell are sending Cincinnati into a second bowl game in three seasons under Mark Dantonio.

Davila threw a tying touchdown with 2:19 remaining and Lovell kicked a go-ahead field goal with 10 seconds to play as the Bearcats rallied past Connecticut, 26-23, in a Big East Conference contest.

Davila completed 14-of-25 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns for Cincinnati (7-5, 4-3 Big East), which will finish no worse than in a tie for fourth place in the league, which has five bowl slots to fill.

With his team clinging to a one-point lead, Huskies quarterback Matt Bonislawski threw a 45-yard touchdown to Brad Kanuch with 8:14 to play, but Tony Ciaravino failed to make the extra point, keeping the score at 23-16.

The Bearcats tied the game on Davila's nine-yard pass to Dominick Goodman just under six minutes later, and got the ball back at their own 28 with 61 seconds to play after forcing a three-and-out.

Davila began the drive with a 50-yard completion to Derrick Stewart, setting up Lovell's winning kick four plays later.

Bonislawski went 13-of-24 for 172 yards and two TDs for the Huskies (4-7, 1-5), who conclude their season at eighth-ranked Louisville next week.
