California looks to take out frustration on Stanford

Nov 28, 2006 - 9:26 PM Stanford (1-10) at No. 21 California (8-3), 3:00 pm EST

BERKELEY, California (Ticker) - California has not won a football game in nearly a month. The Golden Bears may unleash their wrath on Stanford.

The 21st-ranked Bears try to beat the Cardinal for a fifth straight year when the Pac-10 Conference rivals meet Saturday.

Cal (8-3, 6-2 Pac-10) had won eight consecutive contests before suffering a 24-20 loss at Arizona on November 11. Despite the defeat, the Bears could have claimed their first Rose Bowl berth since the 1958 season with a win at Southern California the following week but gave up 17 unanswered points in a 23-9 setback.

Nate Longshore completed just 17-of-38 passes for 176 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for the Bears, who have had an extra week to stew over the defeat.

Cal will be happy to be concluding its season against Stanford (1-10, 1-7), which is having a miserable second season under coach Walt Harris.

The Cardinal ended a 10-game skid with a win at Washington on November 11 but suffered a 30-7 loss to Oregon State the following week to cap a winless home schedule.

T.C. Ostrander has thrown for just one touchdown in four games since replacing injured Trent Edwards behind center.

No one has shouted yet.
