Rodgers, Packers top Rams
Aug 17, 2014 - 1:14 AM St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Rodgers completed 11-of-13 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown in his preseason debut as the Green Bay Packers defeated the St. Louis Rams, 21-7, in the second exhibition game for both teams on Saturday afternoon.Rodgers, along with running back Eddie Lacy and wide receiver Jordy Nelson, were healthy scratches in Green Bay's first preseason game last week. Lacy carried the ball five times for 25 yards and added two receptions for 22 yards, while Nelson had a touchdown catch called back due to a penalty.
Randall Cobb caught three passes for 34 yards and a touchdown and tight end Andrew Quarless had four receptions for 58 yards in the triumph.
Rookie defensive end Michael Sam, who was the first openly-gay player drafted in the NFL, didn't see defensive snaps until the second half for St. Louis. He tallied a sack among his two tackles.
Sam Bradford, who hadn't played since tearing his ACL last October, made his first preseason appearance. He was 9-of-12 for 101 yards and a touchdown in defeat.
Isaiah Pead will likely miss the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee while running back a kickoff in the first quarter. He took the ball down the left sideline, but went down untouched as his knee buckled while attempting a jump-cut.
Rodgers led the Packers to scoring drives on his two series. He flipped a 3- yard TD pass to Cobb on Green Bay's opening possession and Mason Crosby nailed a 31-yard field goal on the Packers' ensuing touch to give them a 10-0 advantage early in the second.
Bradford fired an 11-yard TD strike to Lance Kendricks later in the frame to get the Rams within 10-7 heading into the break.
Jeff Janis hauled in a 34-yard TD pass from Matt Flynn late in the third quarter and Green Bay converted a two-point conversion to up its cushion to 18-7. Crosby's 49-yard field goal midway through the fourth made it 21-7.
