Flacco, Ravens top Redskins

Aug 24, 2014 - 3:11 AM Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Joe Flacco completed 16-of-23 passes and threw for 180 yards and a touchdown as the Baltimore Ravens defeated the Washington Redskins, 23-17, in preseason action on Saturday.

Steve Smith hauled in six balls for 80 yards and a touchdown, while Tyrod Taylor went 6-of-9 for 65 yards and a score and also rushed for 35 yards. Justin Tucker kicked three field goals in the win.

Robert Griffin III went just 5-of-8 for 20 yards and an interception, while Kirk Cousins threw for 122 yards on 14-of-20 efficiency with touchdowns to Santana Moss and Nick Williams in the setback.

Kai Forbath hit a 32-yard field goal on Washington's opening drive, but Tucker tied the game less than five minutes into the second quarter with a 36-yard field goal.

Flacco connected with Smith on a 24-yard touchdown pass to cap an eight-play, 74-yard drive to give the Ravens a 10-3 lead heading into the half.

Tucker tacked on a 21-yard field goal less than two minutes into the second half after C.J. Mosely intercepted Griffin on the first play from scrimmage, setting the Ravens up at Washington's 26-yard line.

Cousins took over at quarterback for the Redskins and found Moss on an 11-yard strike, getting Washington within 13-10.

Taylor's 21-yard pass to Deonte Thompson gave Baltimore a 20-10 advantage less than three minutes into the fourth and Tucker hit another field goal, this time from 46 yards out.

Cousins connected with Williams for a 7-yard score to cap an 80-yard march with five minutes left in the game to account for the final score.

Ravens running back Bernard Pierce exited the game after getting hit by Washington safety Brandon Merriweather during the first quarter. He stayed down on the field for awhile before walking off on his own to the locker room to undergo concussion protocol.
