Manning, Giants throttle Seahawks

Nov 8, 2010 - 1:08 AM Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Eli Manning threw three touchdowns and Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for two scores, as the New York Giants embarrassed the Seattle Seahawks, 41-7, at Qwest Field.

The Giants (6-2), fresh off a bye week, thrashed the Seahawks (4-4) for 487 yards while only allowing 162 en route to their fifth straight win and first in Seattle since 1981.

Manning ended with 290 yards on 21-of-32 efficiency, throwing TDs to Steve Smith, Kevin Boss and Hakeem Nicks, who caught six balls for 128 yards in the lopsided victory. Brandon Jacobs and Bradshaw rushed for 78 and 57 yards, respectively.

Charlie Whitehurst, in his first career start in place of an injured Matt Hasselbeck, completed 12-of-23 passes for 113 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions for Seattle, which was coming off a 33-3 drubbing at the hands of the Oakland Raiders.

"It's a big-time challenge for us, me and the coaching staff," Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said. "We have seen the whole spectrum in half a year. We now must deal with it."

A one-sided opening 30 minutes saw the Giants take a remarkable 35-0 lead, their largest halftime margin since November 29, 1959 against the Redskins when they led 38-0.

The Seahawks went three-and-out on their first three touches, failing to capitalize on a Boss fumble on New York's opening drive.

Bradshaw got the rout started on a two-yard TD run with 5:49 left in the first quarter, and the Giants scored twice in a 15-second span later in the frame.

Nicks made a highlight-reel catch for his ninth TD of the season, as he made a diving grab in the end zone on Manning's underthrown 46-yard bomb.

Leon Washington, the NFL's leading kick returner, coughed up the ball on the ensuing kickoff, and Bradshaw went in from four yards out on the next play from scrimmage at the 2:03 mark of the first.

Seattle's Mike Williams nearly had a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter, but the receiver bobbled the ball into Terrell Thomas' hands for the interception.

Manning capped the next drive with a six-yard strike to Smith over the middle, and after Whitehurst threw another pick in enemy territory, New York went 86 yards in 10 plays for a 35-0 advantage on Boss' five-yard reception in the final minute of the half.

"We came ready to play from the beginning. We were in good rhythm," Manning said.

Lawrence Tynes tacked on a 25-yard field goal five minutes into the third and booted a 20-yarder on the last play of the quarter.

Whitehurst, a third-round pick by the Chargers in the 2006 draft, had not attempted an NFL pass before Sunday and finally got the Seahawks on the board with a 36-yard strike to Ben Obomanu early in the fourth.

Coincidentally, the Seahawks had a 35-0 first-half lead on their way to a 42-30 victory the last time these two teams played here (2006)...New York had lost four straight in Seattle...The Giants gained 30 first downs to Seattle's eight and had possession for 42 1/2 minutes...Manning had a 125.8 quarterback rating, his third straight 100-plus outing ...Marshawn Lynch led Seattle with 48 yards on 11 carries...There were no sacks in the game...New York hosts Dallas next week, while Seattle tries to get back on track on the road at Arizona.
