Oakland makes infamous NFL history with win over KC

Jan 3, 2011 - 12:47 AM Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The Oakland Raiders made history on Sunday, but for something not worth celebrating.

Michael Bush and rookie Jacoby Ford both ran for a touchdown to help the Raiders close out the regular season with a 31-10 victory over the AFC West- champion Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

With the win, Oakland (8-8) completed a six-game sweep of the AFC West. However, in doing so, the Raiders became the first club since the NFL-AFL merger to go unbeaten in its division and not make the playoffs.

Oakland dropped all six non-division conference games.

Bush had 137 yards on 25 carries, while Oakland quarterback Jason Campbell completed 15-of-25 passes for 155 yards and one touchdown.

"I'm very happy for our football team," said Oakland head coach Tom Cable. "I'm very happy for the players and coaches in that locker room to have battled through this (season). We're disappointed because we're not going to the playoffs."

Matt Cassel had 115 yards on 11-of-33 efficiency with two fourth-quarter interceptions for the Chiefs (10-6), who will enter the postseason as the No. 4 seed and will host Baltimore in a wild-card matchup next Sunday.

"The Raiders came in here and handled us in most areas. I've got to give them credit for being ready to go," said Kansas City head coach Todd Haley.

The Chiefs were aiming to finish 8-0 at home for the first time since 2003, the last year the franchise claimed a division crown.

Oakland turned the ball over on its first play from scrimmage. Kansas City converted the Darrius Heyward-Bey fumble into a 30-yard Ryan Succop field goal.

A scrambling Campbell suffered a knee injury during the second possession of the game. After Kyle Boller took over on the next Oakland series, Campbell returned to guide the Raiders on a 14-play, 91-yard drive that he capped with a five-yard touchdown pass to Chaz Schilens with 8:33 remaining in the second quarter.

Sebastian Janikowski made a 38-yard field goal to give Oakland a 10-3 halftime lead.

The Raiders turned the ball over on downs at the Kansas City 36-yard line to begin the third quarter. Jamaal Charles then sprinted 47 yards to the Oakland eight to set up his five-yard dash into the end zone three plays later, which tied the score with 8:02 left in the frame.

Oakland responded on the ensuing possession, going 75 yards in nine plays. Bush finished off the drive with a 26-yard touchdown run up the middle to restore the Raiders' seven-point lead.

Ford's 10-yard TD run on a reverse was set up by just the sixth interception of the season by Cassel.

Stanford Routt picked off Cassel on the next drive and ran 22 yards for a touchdown, extending Oakland's lead to 31-10 with 9:11 left in regulation.

Oakland finished with its best record since the 2002 season...Running back Darren McFadden (turf toe) and defensive tackle Richard Seymour (hamstring) were both inactive for Oakland...The Raiders have won four straight at Kansas City...Charles had 87 yards on 14 carries...Kansas City's Dwayne Bowe caught five passes for 68 yards.
