Denver Broncos draft needs

Apr 26, 2007 - 11:07 PM Coach: Mike Shanahan (13th year) Director of football operations: Mike Shanahan

Last season: 9-7, Tied 2nd AFC West

Major offseason additions: RB Travis Henry, TE Daniel Graham, CB Dre' Bly, G Montrae Holland, WR Brandon Stokley, LB Warrick Holdman.

Major offseason losses: RB Tatum Bell, QB Jake Plummer, T George Foster, DE Courtney Brown, LB Patrick Chukwurah.

1st round pick: 21 2nd round pick: 56

Draft strategy: Need help on the defensive line, both at end and tackle. The Broncos have been seeking a pass-rushing end since Bertrand Berry and Reggie Hayward left as free agents years ago. Injury-plagued Courtney Brown was not the answer at end. Jarvis Moss of Florida and Charles Johnson of Georgia are possibilities with the 21st pick

Want a defensive tackle to help ease the double teams off Gerard Warren. May take Justin Harrell of Tennessee or Ray McDonald of Florida with the 21st pick.

Need an infusion of speed at the safety positions. Free safety John Lynch turns 36 years old in September. Strong safety Nick Ferguson turns 33 years old in November. Sam Brandon, the top backup at the safety positions, suffered a torn knee ligament last November.

Could use a wide receiver who can return kicks. If Ted Ginn of Ohio State is available with the 21st pick, the Broncos may pounce on him. Veteran receiver Rod Smith had offseason hip surgery.

Will likely take a tackle with a second-round pick or with one of their two third-round picks. Left tackle Matt Lepsis is coming off knee surgery and right tackle George Foster was traded with running back Tatum Bell for cornerback Dre' Bly, who will replace the late Darrent Williams.

Addressed the loss of Bell by signing Travis Henry.
