Falcons select Arkansas DE Anderson with eighth pick

Apr 28, 2007 - 5:45 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Looking for help at defensive end, the Atlanta Falcons selected Jamaal Anderson of Arkansas with theeighth pick in Saturday's NFL draft.It was the first pick for the Falcons under new coach BobbyPetrino, who opted to pass on 19-year-old defensive tackle AmobiOkoye whom he coached at Louisville. The Falcons had a more pressing need at end after losing veteranPatrick Kerney, who signed as a free agent with Seattle.The 6-5, 288-pound Anderson, who declared for the draft afterhis junior season, recorded 13 1/2 sacks in his final collegiatecampaign.Anderson was the second defensive end picked after Clemson's Gaines Adams went fourth overall to Tampa Bay.The Miami Dolphins have the next pick.
