Dolphins LB Porter has arthroscopic surgery on right knee

Aug 7, 2007 - 7:22 PM MIAMI (Ticker) -- Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Tuesday morning.

Porter visited renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama, where the operation was performed. Dolphins first-year coach Cam Cameron did not say how long the veteran linebacker would be sidelined.

Porter had missed practice on Friday and Saturday with pain in the knee, prompting him to visit Dr. Andrews.

"The bottom line is they decided to go in and take a look at (the knee)," Cameron said. "They do say it's something minor."

Porter had a similar procedure done on his left knee prior to the 2005 season, and followed it up with career highs of 10 1/2 sacks and five forced fumbles to help the Pittsburgh Steelers win the Super Bowl.

Porter ended an eight-year spell with the Steelers - the only team he had played for up until now - to sign with the Dolphins this offseason. His contract includes $20 million in guaranteed money, according to the Miami Herald.
