Aug 17, 2014 - 4:24 AM Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Clyde Gates caught a 17-yard score from Michael Vick early in the fourth quarter as the New York Jets grabbed a 25-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in preseason action on Saturday.Gates' score gave the Jets a 23-17 lead 1 1/2 minutes into the fourth quarter, and IK Enemkpali blocked a Kevin Huber punt with the ball going out of the end zone to give the Jets a safety on Cincinnati's ensuing possession.
The Bengals failed on an attempted fourth-down conversion just past midfield later in the fourth, and Matt Scott had a pass picked off a bit later to end the game.
Geno Smith played the first half of the game under center for the Jets and went 10-of-13 for 98 yards with an interception. He also had four carries for 20 yards and a score, leading the team to two touchdowns and a field goal during his time under center.
Andy Dalton was crisp under center for the Bengals, going 8-of-8 for 144 yards and a score while guiding the team to a pair of touchdowns and a field goal during his three drives.
Dalton and Mohamed Sanu connected on a 43-yard score on Cincinnati's first possession, while the Jets came back with a 40-yard field goal from Nick Folk.
Giovani Bernard's 1-yard plunge into the end zone gave the Bengals a 14-3 lead after one quarter, and a Smith interception led to a 42-yard field goal from Nugent early in the second quarter.
Scott fumbled the ball when he was sacked and the Jets recovered at the Cincinnati 19. Four plays later, Bilal Powell got into the end zone from two yards out to make it a 17-10 game.
Smith scrambled into the end zone from a yard out with under two minutes to play in the first half, but the team went for two and failed as the Bengals took a 17-16 lead into the break.
