Texans sign free agent FS Demps

Sep 11, 2007 - 8:38 PM HOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Houston Texans on Wednesday signed free agent free safety Will Demps after placing strong safety Jason Simmons on the reserve/injured list.

The 27-year-old Demps spent last season with the New York Giants, starting 16 games at free safety, finishing with a career-high 74 tackles and tying a career high with two interceptions.

The 6-0, 205-pound Demps, who signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2002, has started 62 of 73 games, collecting 334 tackles, six interceptions and 6 1/2 sacks over his five-year career.

Simmons left Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs midway through the second quarter after tearing the patellar tendon in his left knee. The 10-year veteran will not play for the rest of the season.
