Surgery to sideline Chargers DE Castillo six weeks

Nov 7, 2007 - 1:23 AM SAN DIEGO (Ticker) - San Diego Chargers defensive end Luis Castillo is expected to miss six weeks following surgery on his right foot.

Castillo underwent surgery Monday to repair a tendon in the ankle. The team is hoping he can return in time for the game against the Denver Broncos on Christmas Eve.

One of San Diego's two first-round picks in 2005, Castillo had 31 tackles and 1.5 sacks in seven games this season.

Castillo has registered 12 sacks in 34 career games.

Jacques Cesaire, a fifth-year veteran, will replace Castillo in the starting lineup. Cesaire is credited with 19 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble this season.

"(Injuries) are always a part of it," coach Norv Turner said. "When we've had guys injured, we've had guys step in and play well. That's something that we're counting on."

Turner also said that cornerback Quentin Jammer was day-to-day after leaving Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings with a strained hamstring.
