Report: Bears RB Benson may be done for the season

Nov 26, 2007 - 5:35 PM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson may miss the remainer of the season due to an ankle injury, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on its web site Monday.

Benson left Sunday's 37-34 win over the Denver Broncos in the second quarter when he twisted his left ankle while being tackled by Denver safety Hamza Abdullah. He was taken from the field on a cart and later returned on crutches and with his foot in a boot.

Although the Bears have not disclosed detailed information regarding the injury, the Sun-Times is reporting that Benson is expected to miss the rest of the season.

"They told me not to say anything," Benson told the newspaper. "I've got to go downtown (to see a doctor on Monday) morning."

Prior to leaving the game, Benson had rushed for 47 yards on eight carries. For the season, the fourth overall pick in 2005 has 674 yards on 196 carries and four touchdowns.

Adrian Peterson, who carried 17 times for 45 yards and a touchdown Sunday, will become the new No. 1 running back in Chicago if Benson is finished.
