Cards banged up on defense

Nov 28, 2007 - 5:19 PM GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) - The Arizona Cardinals' defense has suffered two big blows.

The team placed cornerback Eric Green on injured reserve Tuesday and is expected to do the same with Pro Bowl safety Adrian Wilson later Wednesday.

Green tore his groin muscle tackling Frank Gore in Sunday's overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

"I knew when I did it something was wrong," Green said. "I wanted to throw up. The last time I did that, I tore up my ACL, getting that throw-up feeling."

Green has recorded 51 total tackles this season.

Wilson is expected to be placed on IR later Wednesday having struggled with a foot injury for several weeks. According to a report on the Arizona Republic's web site Wednesday, the veteran needs surgery on his injured right heel and Achilles.

Wilson has 44 tackles and two interceptions this season.

The loss of Wilson will leave coach Ken Whisenhunt with problems in his defensive backfield as third safety Aaron Francisco is also struggling with a calf injury.
