Cowboys rookie Lewis exonerated from domestic violence charges
Jul 26, 2017 - 1:23 AM Dallas Cowboys rookie cornerback Jourdan Lewis was found not guilty on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence on Tuesday in Ann Arbor, Mich.Lewis was cleared on charges of assaulting his ex-girlfriend in March at their apartment in Ann Arbor. A six-person jury returned the verdict after deliberating for just over an hour.
"I'm elated, of course," Lewis said outside the courtroom, per mlive.com.
Lewis, who starred at the University of Michigan, was arrested on March 15, and one day later pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and assault and battery.
"We thought all long that Jourdan would be totally exonerated and he was. Justice was served," said Kevin Poston, Lewis' agent, in a statement, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
If convicted, the 21-year-old Lewis -- a third-round draft pick of Dallas -- faced up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine.
Lewis was exonerated one day after police in Virginia dropped charges against former Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead, who was cut by the club Monday even though authorities acknowledged it was a case of mistaken identity.
