Vikings QB Bradford inactive vs. Steelers, Keenum starts

Sep 17, 2017 - 5:03 PM Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford was inactive for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers because of a knee injury.

Backup Case Keenum will get the start for the Vikings.

The Vikings promoted rookie quarterback Kyle Sloter from the practice squad on Saturday with Bradford being listed as questionable for the game. Sloter will back up Keenum.

Bradford was limited in practice all week because of pain, discomfort and swelling in his surgically repaired left knee. He tested his knee during warmups Sunday morning at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh before being ruled out.

The knee Bradford injured in the season opener is the same knee that underwent surgeries in 2013 and 2014. An MRI was negative.

Keenum has started 24 NFL games, going 9-15 but 9-7 after a 0-8 start. He started the first nine games last season for the Los Angeles Rams, going 4-5 before giving way to rookie Jared Goff. His last start was Nov. 13, 2016, at the New York Jets.

Bradford was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, going 27 of 32 for 346 yards with three touchdowns en route to a 29-19 win.

For the Steelers, defensive end Stephon Tuitt was ruled inactive after being listed as questionable. He injured his biceps in the season opener against the Cleveland Browns last Sunday.
