Titans rookie WR Davis can't shake hamstring issues

Sep 21, 2017 - 6:36 AM Corey Davis' rookie season continues to be derailed by a hamstring injury that flared up again Sunday in Tennessee's win over the Jaguars.

The Titans have already declared Davis out for this week's game against Seattle, and they have bought themselves some insurance at the position by bringing rookie wide receiver Zach Pascal up from the practice squad to give them five receivers on game day.

Davis initially sustained the injury during the first week of training camp and missed all of the preseason. He was declared good to go for the season and looked good in the season opener, playing 42 snaps and catching six passes for 69 yards in a loss to the Raiders.

But Sunday against Jacksonville, the injury came back, and it sounds as if the Titans will exercise extreme caution to make sure Davis doesn't have another setback.

"We're trying to get him past this so we're not dealing with this in November," Titans coach Mike Mularkey said.

Mularkey added that Davis is especially agitated that he is unable to contribute.

"It's tough any time you have to watch a guy that can't play. It's very frustrating. He's so competitive," Mularkey said. "He thinks he's letting us down. But he's not letting anybody down. We're dealing with the NFL; we have injuries. I know he's frustrated that he can't play."

Davis' job in the starting lineup falls back on veteran Eric Decker, who has yet to really get on track himself after missing time with an ankle injury. It also opens up an opportunity for Taywan Taylor, a third-round pick, to play more snaps. Taylor had a 42-yard catch on a go route last week and is easily the Titans' fastest option at wide receiver.

Davis isn't the only Titan suffering with a hamstring issue, which seems to be the injury du jour for the Titans this season.

Safety Johnathan Cyprien will miss a second straight week with the injury, and running back DeMarco Murray's status is up in the air as well after he reinjured his hamstring on Sunday.
